A White Lie for Fitness Goals

As a personal trainer, I pride myself on honesty and transparency with my clients. However, there was one small lie I told that still sits with me slightly uneasily. It was during a group session when we were doing an endurance test to see how many times each person could run up the stairs in 3 minutes. The numbers were being called out loud for everyone to hear and I knew my results would pale in comparison to some of the others, especially John who was there every day pushing his limits. So, rather than admit my less-than-impressive performance, I fibbed about my count and said it was higher. It felt petty at the time, but it also made me want to push harder for real during future sessions.
