A Lie I Told Myself

I recently ended a long-term relationship and decided to try dating apps again. One night, after swiping left on dozens of people, I found myself chatting with someone interesting named Alex. We exchanged numbers, and the next day we went out for drinks at a local bar. After some friendly conversation and a few rounds of shots, Alex asked if I wanted to head back to their place. I felt hesitant but also intrigued. Instead of saying no outright, which was what I really meant, I told him I had a doctor’s appointment the next morning and needed an early night. The truth is, I didn't want to be alone with someone new that quickly after my breakup, even if they seemed nice. It's silly how such a small white lie can weigh on your conscience so heavily.
