A Small Lie in a Sea of Truths

So, I'm engaged, and my partner and I have this thing where we're completely honest with each other. It's been going well for the past year since we've started dating. But today, something small happened that made me feel like I was back in high school again, sneaking out of a window or hiding under a desk to avoid getting caught. So here's my confession: I lied about where I went this afternoon. It wasn't even important; it was just a little shop for some forgotten errand, but the truth is, there was a small detour I took that I didn't want him knowing about because he'd probably be more annoyed than anything else. And you know how it goes: one lie leads to another, and soon enough, you're in this whole web of your own making. But seriously, what's the big deal? It's just a silly little detour. Now I'm feeling all guilty for something that really isn't that significant. Sometimes being honest can be such a hassle, not because it’s hard to tell the truth, but because you know exactly how someone will overthink and react negatively to even the tiniest of truths. I mean, honestly, sometimes I wonder why we're so obsessed with this idea of absolute honesty anyway? Is there really anything wrong with just keeping a bit of mystery alive in our relationships or is that what ruins everything for us? Maybe it’s because I’m feeling a little insecure right now, or maybe it's just the weight of too many details piling up. But let me assure you, this isn't going to be a habit. One lie doesn’t ruin everything, but then again, honesty can sure keep things simpler. And as for why it was such a big deal to go off the beaten path today? It’s just that I needed a little bit of space from our usual routine, and sometimes you have to take an unexpected turn to get there. Back to reality now: how do you think my partner will react when he finds out about this tiny deviation from the truth? Oh well, here's hoping it won’t blow up in my face.
