A Nurse's Dilemma

I’m a nurse in my 30s and I’ve been in an open relationship for about two years now. We agreed to keep things casual but still check in with each other before moving on to someone else. Recently, though, I found myself attracted to one of my patients, a handsome young man in his mid-20s who was recovering from surgery. One night after a long shift, we ended up talking late into the evening. He mentioned how much he missed physical contact and admitted that he’d had fantasies about having a nurse take care of him in ways beyond the medical scope. I shouldn’t have, but when his eyes met mine, I felt a pull I couldn’t resist. We ended up at my place later, both consenting adults, engaging in intimate activities that went well beyond what a patient-nurse relationship should be. As a professional and as someone who prides himself on boundaries, it’s unsettling to think about how far I let this go. But there was something about his vulnerability and the way he looked at me with such neediness, it made my heart race in ways that have nothing to do with medicine or nursing ethics. It’s confusing me now trying to figure out if what we did was just a one-time slip-up or if there's more here than I can admit.
