...So Many Regrets...

It was never easy being married to Mike after we both turned forty. We had the kids, bought the house, and I thought that was it, our lives planned out neatly. But somewhere around our twentieth anniversary, things just started feeling stagnant. I couldn't put my finger on it at first, but every small thing seemed to rub me wrong: his jokes, our conversations, how he looked at me or didn’t look at me. And then...I met Sarah. She was fresh, funny, and she saw something in me that had been slipping away with age and routine. We started sneaking around last year, but it wasn't just about the physical, there were so many deep conversations we could finally have without feeling guilty or pretending to be someone else. But now I'm divorced, and even though I know it was wrong on some level, part of me still can’t help but wonder if this is what we both wanted all along...but couldn't say before. The other half wonders why it ended the way it did.
