Oopsie! A Lie I Didn't Need To Tell

So here's the thing, I'm thirty-six and married for a decade now to my lovely wife, Jane. We have our ups and downs like any relationship but generally, it’s solid as can be. Last week though? Yeah, I got caught telling a little fib that made me chuckle when I thought about it later, but left me feeling guilty once she called me out on it. It started innocently enough, I was supposed to meet Jane for dinner after work and we decided to try this fancy new restaurant downtown. The problem? I totally forgot my wallet at home and didn't have any cash or card on me. Now, in a perfect world, I would've told her the truth and suggested getting takeout somewhere cheaper instead. But nope, my brain went into overdrive and thought up an excuse to save face. I texted Jane from the restaurant entrance saying that our dinner reservation had been canceled because of some mix-up with the booking system. 'No biggie, love,' I added (a lie, by the way), but suggested we grab a quick coffee at this cafe nearby instead. Now, here’s where things get juicy and embarrassing. Jane being super smart caught on straight away when she checked my phone later to see that I was indeed at the restaurant while sending those texts. She laughed it off saying, 'You really thought you could fool me with your fib?' We ended up having a lovely chat about why I felt the need to lie and how much better it is to be honest even when faced with small things like this. It’s just one of those moments that remind us both that we’ve got a decade under our belt as a couple, and while lying isn’t always wrong, it's definitely not something we encourage in each other. So yeah, here I am, confessing to a silly little lie about dinner reservations, a far cry from any kinky tales or bedroom adventures. But sometimes the smallest things are worth owning up to because honesty is more than just being truthful about big decisions; it’s about the everyday choices too.
