A Small Lie

I told a little fib recently that made me feel guilty but also kinda giddy. My husband and I have been married for six years now, and things have changed a lot over the course of our relationship. We both try to keep each other happy, but sometimes it's hard to balance everything in life. Last month, my mom called me asking if I had seen a sketchbook she left at my place weeks ago. I knew right away where it was, hidden behind some old books and magazines on the shelf in our bedroom. But there was this one sketch of us together that I really loved. It was honest and raw, reflecting how much we've grown since the early days when everything felt perfect. I told my mom to keep looking around because I hadn't seen it. The lie stung for a moment, but the truth is, she wouldn't have understood why I wanted to hang onto that memory in such a personal way. So, I decided to frame it instead and sneak it into our hallway, a place where only we would see it and appreciate its real meaning.
