Recent Experiment in Casuality

So yeah, last night I decided to take things further with this new guy. Not that it was a date or anything, just two adults who met on an app and decided to spend some time together, talking about everything from literature to gardening. But the conversation got more personal over drinks at his place, and we ended up sharing stories that had nothing to do with academia. Before I knew it, there was this unexpected intimacy building between us. We agreed it could go either way - friendship or something more physical. He’s in his mid-thirties, just starting a new job in the city after moving from out of state, so he’s still figuring things out himself too. It turns out, we both have rather unconventional tastes, which was somewhat surprising since I’ve always kept that side hidden from my professional life. One moment we were talking about our preferences in books and movies, the next thing you know, there we were trying out some of these ideas together for the first time. It felt liberating but also a little odd, stepping outside what I would normally expect from casual encounters. Anyway, it’s not something I’ll tell anyone at work or even my closest friends about - just another layer to who I am that I don’t really need to advertise publicly. But it did make me realize how much of an emotional buffer we all create for ourselves when meeting someone new outside our established circles. And perhaps a little less skepticism might be in order, because sometimes you find yourself in situations that challenge your preconceived notions about who you are and what you want.
