...And Then There Was Divorce...

So I got married in my early twenties, you know? Figured it was the right thing at the time. We had known each other since high school but that's not really part of this story. It's more about how we got to divorce court a decade later. Or rather, my fault for being such an asshole. Ellie (that’s her name) and I had everything going well early on... kids, mortgage, the whole bit. But then she wanted more from me. I don't mean sex or whatever you're thinking... just in general. She wanted me to be a better partner, someone who actually listens instead of just nodding when she talks about her day at work and all that. And honestly? That was too much for me. I started going out more with my friends from college, old buddies I hadn't seen since our early twenties. We'd drink and laugh... talk about the good ol' days before marriage and babies came along to ruin it all. Ellie didn't like this either, but she didn't say anything then... Fast forward a few months and things were going downhill real quick. We stopped talking, literally. Days would go by without even eye contact in the house. I was home more too... just to avoid her actually. And that's when it all went south. One night after too much wine and one of those college friends visiting for a short stay... we ended up hooking up. Not even a big deal really, he left town soon after and we didn't see each other again. But Ellie found out somehow... So yeah, confession time. My divorce was inevitable but that last thing just made it so much more real. I'm not proud of my actions... just admitting them here. We're both 18+ adults now, no turning back the clock or pretending anything could change what happened. Sorry for being such an asshole in a relationship that deserved better...
