Caught in the Act of Being Too Engaged with My Students

I've always been an enthusiastic teacher, eager to help my students grow and learn. Last year, I found myself particularly drawn to a group of four seniors, let's call them Alex, Jordan, Morgan, and Taylor, who were going through some tough times both in school and at home. I thought I was just being supportive and mentoring them, but looking back now, it’s clear that my actions went beyond the boundaries of what a teacher should do. I started organizing study sessions with them outside regular hours. It seemed innocent enough: helping them with college applications, discussing their future goals, even giving them personal advice about handling relationships and stress. But over time, these meetings evolved into more casual gatherings where we’d watch movies together, grab coffee, or just chat. The line between teacher and mentor became blurred. I let them call me by my first name, and I felt like a friend rather than an authority figure. We even shared personal stories and emotions that were way beyond what’s appropriate. The turning point came when Alex suggested we play truth or dare one night. It seemed harmless at the time, but things got out of hand quickly. The night was filled with playful tension, and I found myself getting involved in a heated round of dares that included kissing games, clearly something not okay for any adult-student relationship. Although nothing happened past that point, it still felt wrong and violated my role as their teacher. When the evening ended and reality set in, I knew something had to change. Despite feeling guilty and knowing it was a mistake, there’s a part of me that can’t shake off the thrill of those moments with them. I’m engaged to someone else, but these feelings for Alex, Jordan, Morgan, and Taylor still linger. It's like an unspeakable secret that's eating away at me from the inside out. I haven’t acted on any further impulses since then, and now it feels as though time has passed and things have settled down a bit. But deep down, I know it’s just my rational mind trying to make sense of something morally indefensible. Venting here helps, it’s an admission that needs no justification or defense.
