Conflicted Over My Teacher's Affection
Anonymous Greedy Menace #201 · General
Hey everyone, I need some help figuring out a situation. It started in my first semester of law school when I had this amazing professor for contracts class. She was older than me and incredibly smart, every lecture felt like it was crafted to perfection. Her eyes were piercingly blue and her smile always put me at ease during tough exams. Anyway, she seemed to have a special interest in me from day one. Not just academic either; I could tell something was different when we had office hours. She would stay late with me after the other students left, even though no one else ever needed extra help. It wasn't just that she spent time with me, it felt more like...well, personal. Fast forward a few months and I'm having this intense dream about her one night. You know how sometimes dreams feel so real? Well, in this one, she was being really affectionate towards me. Not sexual, but more like intimate friendship kind of stuff. The next day at class, I couldn't shake the feeling that maybe my subconscious had a point, something between us felt different. And then it happened: after a particularly grueling study session where she stayed with me until 3 AM to help with an upcoming project, we ended up just talking about our lives. She mentioned her divorce last year and how hard it's been adjusting since. I listened and empathized but...I also found myself thinking that if this wasn't her ex-husband, maybe there could've been a different outcome. But wait, I'm only 18+, she’s clearly older than me and in an entirely different stage of life. And I'm still figuring out who I am outside of school stuff. So here's my question: Am I overthinking this or does something need to change? Is it okay for a student-professor relationship to involve more personal conversations, even if nothing happens physically? Or is there a clear line that should never be crossed?
