he didn't get me

so i was dating this guy for like a year and he finally figured out im trans. we both decided to take things slow bc of all the changes going on in my life. i thought he was really supportive, even though sometimes it felt weird explaining stuff to him or seeing how uncomfortable some things made him. but anyway, i ended up breaking up with him cuz he never seemed to get past the initial shock and he started acting like i was different from who he dated before. it's been a few weeks now and everyone else in my life is super chill about everything, just this guy couldn't wrap his head around it. im wondering if this is normal or if there was something deeper wrong that i missed. does anyone have any advice? am i the asshole for walking away?
