A Night of Solitude Turned Intimate

Anonymous Restless Stray #129 · General

I recently got separated from my husband, and I’ve been feeling all sorts of things. Last night, though, was different, I felt a real emptiness in the quiet house, and the loneliness gnawing at me turned into this strange urge to reach out somehow. So, I did what any reasonable person might not: I reached out to an old flame, someone who knew me well enough back then. He’s been living far away since we drifted apart after high school reunions, but there was something about him that always resonated with me. And last night, I just needed someone. We ended up at a hotel in town. It wasn’t about love or even romance, it was about filling a void for a moment, both of us acknowledging the space between us and what had been. The physical intimacy was more about connection than anything else. There’s something freeing yet confusing about it all. On one hand, it felt like a step forward in my own healing process; on the other, I can’t help but feel guilty, knowing how my separation affected me. I keep going back to this feeling of being adrift after so long together with my ex-husband, and wondering if what we did was just another way of drifting, only now it’s more about finding a current than staying anchored. It’s a strange mix of relief and regret, really.
