Just Another Night Off Duty

So I'm in this relationship with Jane, and it's going well, we've got that good dynamic where we know each other inside and out. But last week, after a long day at the hospital dealing with patients who seemed to hate humanity (seriously, some people just want to watch the world burn), I was pretty wiped. We were supposed to do the usual thing: go home, have dinner, maybe catch a movie or something tame like that. But Jane had other ideas. She's one of those rare partners where you can say, 'Hey, tonight's not a good night,' and she'll respect it, until this time, when she said, 'I get that but let’s do it anyway.' What was I supposed to do? Argue with her all night about my exhaustion while ignoring the way she looked at me in that moment? So yeah, we ended up playing out some roleplay thing where I was 'her patient' and she was the doctor, who turns out to be quite hands-on. Let's just say my stress levels dropped significantly more than they would've if I had gone for a run or something. Afterwards, it felt like an odd mix of relief and embarrassment. She seemed pretty satisfied though, which is about as much validation as you can hope for when your partner insists on doctor-patient action after a day when you were ready to swear off the medical field altogether.
