My Transition Wasn't As Secret As I Thought

I've been married for a few years now, and my wife has known all along that I'm trans. But I didn't come out to everyone right away, it felt too risky back then. Last year when we were out at a party with friends, one of them got way too drunk and started blurting things like 'have you heard about Jane?' It was mortifying for me and my wife had to step in to shut her up quickly. I thought she'd kept everything quiet as part of our deal before getting married, but obviously it wasn't quite as secure as we both hoped it would be. Since then, I've opened up to more people around us about who I really am. Sometimes the truth comes out even when you're trying to keep things private.
