A Little White Lie At Work ...

I'm the manager at a small electronics store. Last week, we had this huge shipment of new gadgets arrive that everyone was buzzing about on social media. I couldn't help but notice one guy who seemed particularly interested in these products, he came into the store every day for two weeks straight to check their availability. I felt bad because it wasn't my responsibility to update inventory or handle sales, so one day when he asked if we had any left and there was a line forming at the counter, I told him yes... even though they were all sold out. I know it's silly since we can just look up stock online, but it felt like this small act of kindness would make him happy. It bothered me for days afterward, wondering what his reaction would be when he found out, and if anyone else knew about the lie too. Eventually, he asked again last week and I had to tell him they were gone... It was such a little thing but it weighed on my mind so much more than it probably should have.
