I Lied About My Ex-Husband's Job Status...

So I'm this barista who recently got separated from my ex-husband. We'd been together for a long time, but things just kind of fell apart over the years. Anyway, one day, a customer comes in and they start talking to me at the counter. It turns out she's pretty friendly and we strike up quite the conversation. She was asking about me, you know? My personal life, how I'm doing, stuff like that. And so I told her something...well, not exactly true. You see, my ex-husband had been unemployed for a while now. He didn't really have the best attitude when it came to looking for work, and things were just hard between us because of it. So when she asked me about his job situation, I hesitated. And then...I lied. Told her he had landed this great new gig downtown. Just a little white lie to make myself feel better, right? It was nothing major, but it still felt so wrong afterwards. What if he finds out from someone else and asks me about it? I've been thinking about it all day long...the whole time we talked, I just had this heavy feeling in my chest. Guilt, mostly. And I'm not sure how to fix it now that the damage is done. Maybe I should go back and confess? But then again, if he's really doing well, maybe telling him about my lie would only hurt more. I keep thinking...maybe someday I'll tell her the truth when we talk next. Or maybe just forget about it entirely since she seemed so happy for me saying he got a job...
