A Lie I Regret...

I recently ended things with my long-time partner after years of marriage. It was a tough decision, but we both knew it was for the best. During our separation period, there was this one small lie I told... I was at the grocery store and saw an old friend I hadn't kept in touch with. In an effort to seem busy and unapproachable, I pretended to be on a phone call and waved them off without stopping. It felt cowardly and shallow as soon as they were out of sight. The guilt of that moment has stayed with me far longer than it should have...
