Decoding My Recent Dilemma

I’m a software engineer in my late twenties, dating casually for about six months now. Nothing exclusive yet, just meeting up when schedules align and chemistry is high. Recently, I found myself in an interesting situation that has left me wondering if there’s something fundamentally wrong with how I approach these kinds of relationships. We were at a bar last night, enjoying drinks, the kind of place where conversations flow easily but aren’t too deep. My date was charming and engaging; we had good rapport, both intellectually and on a personal level. As the evening went on and alcohol took its usual role as social lubricant, things got more playful and flirtatious. We ended up at her place. Here’s where it gets tricky for me to analyze, there was an air of mutual interest, but also something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. It felt like a step beyond what either of us had signaled beforehand. Before we knew it, things escalated to a point that left me questioning if I crossed any lines without realizing it. I’m not sure if there’s some underlying dynamic at play here that I haven’t been conscious of or if I overreacted because I’m more cautious about intimacy than most. The next day, she texted saying everything was fine and we’re both okay with where things left off, but her response seemed somewhat guarded and brief compared to how talkative she usually is. Now, days later, I can’t shake the feeling of uncertainty. Was this a misunderstanding on my part? Am I reading too much into things because of past experiences that cloud my judgment? Or am I just being overly cautious? I’m leaning towards thinking there was some miscommunication or maybe even mutual confusion given how late it was and the amount of alcohol involved, but advice from others who might have been in similar situations would be really helpful. Is this normal for someone with my history and personality type?
