A Little White Lie at Work

So here's this thing that happened last week, and I still can't stop laughing about it. I've been out of my long-term relationship for a few months now, and I started dating someone new. We decided to take things slow, but one day when I was on shift at the hospital, he texted me asking what time I would be off so we could have dinner together. Of course, as usual, my schedule was hectic and I had no idea when I'd finish up for the night. So here's where the joke comes in, I lied. I told him I got out of work early and was stuck at home with nothing to do all evening. He suggested we go on a little picnic instead, which honestly sounded much more fun than eating alone or working late shifts. But then when my real shift ended, I had to rush straight into an overtime assignment. It was 10 PM by the time I got out, and of course, he'd already left for home. I couldn't help but laugh at myself while feeling a bit guilty for fibbing. The funny thing is, we've been laughing about it ever since. He sent me flowers the next day to make up for missing our date. It's just one of those moments when I realized that no matter how grown-up you think you are, sometimes you're still pulling childish tricks!
