Weekend of Unexpected Passion and Loneliness

I've had a pretty uneventful work week. Mondays through Fridays are usually spent staring at spreadsheets and dreaming about Friday evening drinks with coworkers who are mostly friendly but not close friends. I'm okay being single, really I am, but this week felt different somehow. There was an air of emptiness that made me crave something... more. On Wednesday night, I met a guy named Alex on a dating app we both use for hookups and casual encounters. He seemed nice enough; we swapped numbers and decided to meet up on Friday if he still wanted to after the work week ended. We set no expectations and it felt like just another casual encounter in my life. Friday came, and I saw Alex at a local bar that's usually pretty quiet unless there’s some event going on. He was sipping his beer alone when I walked in, looking around nervously as if he might have second thoughts too. We exchanged quick hellos before getting drinks ourselves. As we talked over our first rounds of drinks, it became clear neither of us had much to lose by being open about the hook-up nature of this meeting. By the time the third drink arrived, there was an undeniable chemistry building between us. We started with small talk but soon delved into more intimate territory, discussing past experiences and what we were comfortable trying out together tonight. When Alex suggested maybe spending the night at his place instead of heading back to my apartment alone after drinks, I felt a mix of hesitation and curiosity. The drive over to his place was filled with anticipation and nerves, but once inside, it felt like a natural progression from where our conversation had been going all evening. We spent hours exploring each other, taking things slow but making clear decisions about what we both wanted in the moment. There were no hard limits set, just mutual agreement that whatever happened needed to be consensual. In the early morning light of Saturday, with exhaustion setting in and no guarantees for how this would play out beyond today, I left Alex’s apartment feeling oddly empty despite everything we’d shared. Was it because I craved more than a one-off experience? Did something about that night make me question my okayness with being single? Now back at work Monday morning, surrounded by the usual humdrum of spreadsheets and stale coffee, I can’t shake off the feeling from Friday night. Am I supposed to reach out to Alex now, see if there’s more? Or is it better left as a fleeting encounter in an otherwise mundane life? What would you all do in my shoes?
