Just Another Saturday Night

So here I am, another lonely night in my thirties with nothing but Netflix and a bottle of wine to keep me company. Or so I thought until an old flame from college messaged me out of the blue, inviting me for drinks. I've been single for ages, but something about reconnecting with someone who knew me before all the adult nonsense made me hesitate less than usual. We met up at this dive bar downtown where we used to hang back in the day. It was like stepping into a time machine, the place smelled just as old and musty as it did years ago. The bartender, an older guy with questionable hygiene habits, looked us over before muttering something about college kids getting back together every few years. I couldn't help but laugh, feeling both nostalgic and absurd in this moment. After a couple of drinks, the talk turned to old times and the usual platitudes. But when we left the bar and walked out into the cool night air, it felt like anything could happen. We ended up at his place (he's forty now, but let's not get hung up on details), and before I knew it, we were both undressed and exploring each other with a mix of familiar curiosity and brand-new desire. It was intense, physical, and wonderfully devoid of the complicated feelings that come from long-term commitments or deep connections. We didn't speak much after that; just grunted occasionally and focused on the heat between us. By the time dawn peeked through his bedroom window, we were both sated but equally ready for a cold shower and morning coffee. That's adulthood for you, not exactly romantic, more like an exercise in biology.
