It's Not About You

I've been with my partner since the start of law school. We're both committed to our studies and each other, but lately I feel like we're drifting apart. It started when she invited her old college friend over for a night out, just drinks, maybe some harmless flirting as they caught up. She said he was someone she could talk to without any judgment about exams or careers. When I came home that evening, there was this tension. Not in words, but between us. I tried to brush it off, thinking I was overreacting. But last week, when we were alone and the subject of him came up again, something snapped inside me. We ended up talking about how I felt, and she admitted they'd kissed that night. She said it didn't mean anything; he's just a friend who knows all my insecurities from back in college. It shouldn’t matter now because we’re together, but it does. I feel like she’s still holding onto parts of her past that don’t belong to our future.
