A Night of Uncharacteristic Risk-Taking

I’m a nurse in my 30s with a stable relationship that’s mostly happy and fulfilling. But last week, I did something completely out of character, I went to an adults-only event organized by one of my patients who had been a patient for several months now. He mentioned it casually during one of our visits, saying it was just another group for people like him looking for unconventional companionship and experiences. At the time, I dismissed it as nothing more than a social club. But the seed was planted, and after a few sleepless nights, I decided to attend. The event itself wasn’t what I expected. It felt almost therapeutic in its openness about desires and boundaries. I walked away with an understanding of myself that I hadn't before, the kind where you realize there are experiences beyond your comfort zone worth considering if they align with who you are as a person, not just who others expect you to be. So here’s my question: How do you reconcile those explorations with the established norms and expectations in long-term relationships? Is it healthy to have these kinds of boundaries tested occasionally?
