Caught in a Cycle of Unfulfilled Desires

I’m fifty-two now and married to my high school sweetheart. We’ve had ups and downs over the years, but overall our relationship has been good, stable, loving even. Lately though, I find myself feeling a bit restless, a yearning that feels strange in this long-standing partnership. It started about six months ago when we were on vacation at a cabin by the lake. The place was remote and it felt like an escape from reality. There was one night when we had planned to go for a hike but ended up staying home due to rain. She fell asleep early, leaving me alone with my thoughts. That’s when I started thinking back on our youth, all those moments where I wished there were others around who could challenge us and push the limits of what was possible in bed. My wife has always been kind and loving but sometimes I feel like she doesn’t understand this side of me that craves more. More risk, more intensity. Since then, it’s become a recurring theme in my mind, fantasies about other people, places, things that seem out of reach. I’ve tried to talk with her about these feelings and have been honest about them, but it hasn’t changed anything for me. I know she feels loved and secure in our relationship but sometimes I’m afraid this longing will end up damaging us. I feel stuck in my desire versus reality conflict, torn between respecting the woman who’s been my constant for so long and wanting something that might not even exist outside of my imagination. Is it normal to experience such conflicting feelings at this stage in life? What can I do to either embrace what we have or find a way to address these unfulfilled desires without hurting anyone?
