...I lied about the wine label....

So there I was at the weekly couples' game night with my partner's friends. You know how it goes, drinks, laughter, a bit of competition thrown in for good measure. My partner and I have this open relationship setup where everything is pretty laid back as long as everyone consents and we all check in regularly to make sure everything feels right. Anyway, during the evening, someone brought up their collection of wines, which was quite impressive, if I do say so myself. They were talking about these fancy labels and the art behind them. Now, I'm not exactly a connoisseur or anything... but I wanted to fit in. I didn't want anyone thinking that I was some boring old fuddy-duddy who doesn't appreciate fine vintages. So when it came down to showing off my own wine label collection for our part of the evening, I fibbed about one particular bottle. It wasn't even a lie per se, I just took poetic license and stretched the truth a bit... okay, so maybe more than a bit. Let's just say that the description I gave was much fancier and more rare than it actually was. To be honest, everyone seemed to believe me. There were some oohs and ahhs, even an admiring comment or two. But then later in the evening, my partner had this look, like she knew something wasn't quite right. I didn't mean any harm by it... I was just trying to be a good sport, to not stick out as the square peg among these wine enthusiasts. But now that it's come up and she's asked me about it, I feel guilty for fibbing, even if no one else seemed to notice or mind. And here I am, thinking I've got the big picture figured out in an open relationship, only to get tripped up on something as silly as a bottle of wine. It doesn't make sense why this bothers me so much, but it does....
