A Little White Lie at the Gym
Anonymous Flushed Beast #568 · General
I recently started working out regularly again after a long hiatus. I joined this gym near my house where a lot of military personnel and their families frequent, including some of my husband's colleagues from his unit. Last week, while chatting with one of these guys, Mark, he's in his late twenties, I felt compelled to inflate my fitness level just a bit. As someone who’s been out of shape for too long, I exaggerated how much weight I've lost and the progress I’ve made on certain exercises. It was an impulsive moment, but I couldn’t help feeling like it boosted my confidence and made me appear more accomplished in that brief conversation. This little lie has been nagging at me ever since. Why did I feel the need to embellish when we were just talking about something as simple as a workout routine? Is there an insecurity behind this, or was it purely for social validation? It's unsettling how such a small thing can linger and make you question your actions.
