Ex's Surprise Visit and My Reaction
Anonymous Reckless Heathen #512 · General
I've been single for about three months now after my long-term relationship ended. We were together for almost five years, but it just wasn't working out anymore. She moved away to another city a couple of weeks ago, and we decided to end things amicably. Today, I was at the gym, just lifting weights and trying to focus on my health since the breakup. My mind kept wandering back to us and wondering what she's doing now that she's so far away. Then, out of nowhere, she walks in through the door. I felt like I was seeing a ghost. She spotted me too and walked over, giving me a big hug. It was... unexpected. We started catching up on old times, talking about how we both were doing without each other. It was awkward at first but soon turned into one of those nostalgic conversations where you remember all the good times. After a bit, she asked if I wanted to grab some coffee later in the week since she was still here visiting family for another few days. To be honest, I didn't really know what to do with myself at that point, part of me just wanted to avoid any more complicated feelings from arising again and sticking around where we could both end up wanting things we shouldn't. But then, it became this whole debate in my head about whether or not I should see her as an old friend and if there was still something there worth trying to figure out. It's complicated, there's a part of me that still cares for her deeply, but another part feels like moving on would be best. So here I am, stuck in this weird place where my heart says yes and my mind knows better. Now, every time I think about seeing her again or maybe even considering picking up where we left off, it just reminds me of how much easier things are now without the daily drama that came with our relationship. Guess I'll have to decide soon what kind of person I want to be after all this time, do I stick to my guns and say goodbye for good? Or do I try one more time because maybe there’s something left to explore between us? Anyway, just needed to get that off my chest. No need for anyone to reply or give me advice; it's really up to me to figure out what feels right.
