My New Tattoo and His Envy
Anonymous Flushed Heathen #683 · General
I recently got a new tattoo on my back that I was really excited about. It's been something I've wanted for years and it finally feels like me. The artist did an amazing job, capturing the intricate details of a sunflower in full bloom with bold colors that represent growth and resilience. But then there's him, my ex-boyfriend who is still around because we're friends but clearly has unresolved feelings or something. He visited me not long after I got it done to see if he could 'check out' my work of art for himself, and I let him in the door to take a peek. When he saw it, his eyes narrowed and his demeanor shifted instantly. He looked at me like I betrayed him somehow, which is ridiculous because we ended things amicably over a month ago. I told him it was my choice and he shouldn't feel threatened by something that makes me happy. But he got this weird smirk on his face, almost as if he knew what he wanted to do but was hesitant. After lingering there longer than necessary, he finally said the words that made my blood run cold: 'You know, I could take care of it better than anyone.' He looked at me with a predatory glint in his eye, and for a moment, I felt scared. But then I saw through his facade, it's just insecurity. His jealousy was obvious, but instead of backing off like any decent person would, he seemed to enjoy the power dynamic. I didn't let him push me around though. He was trying to make this about us when it isn’t anymore. So, I told him straight up that his jealousy isn't welcome and I’m not going to play into it. I'm done with that drama, this tattoo is my personal victory and reminder of what I deserve. It's been a few weeks now and he hasn't brought it up again but the way he looked at me still bothers me sometimes. He’s always tried to dictate how I should present myself, and now I see through that completely. This tattoo is mine alone; there’s nothing for him to possess or envy.
