The Mistaken Bed Partner

I’ll start by saying this isn’t really about me being the asshole or anything like that. It’s more just a recount of what happened and how I’m still processing it. Last weekend, my friend Sam had a birthday party at his apartment. He invited this guy named Alex who I hadn't met before but had heard about through friends, something about him having some unique fetishes and being open to pretty much anything. Anyway, the party started getting pretty wild around midnight. There was a lot of drinking, and music blaring throughout the place. Everyone seemed to be pairing off into different rooms or corners. I didn't really want to do anything too intense at first, but as the night wore on, I found myself drawn towards Alex. We ended up in his bedroom, both pretty tipsy by that point. The atmosphere was charged and everything felt very intimate from the start, you know, like when someone’s just really into making out with you right away? We got naked quickly enough, and things escalated fast after that. It's hard to explain without sounding cliché but it just had this kind of magical energy between us. Then came a point where we were both lying on the bed completely nude. I was about to enter him when Alex suddenly hesitated. He looked at me with an odd expression, as if he was thinking something over. 'Wait,' he said abruptly, ‘you’re not...’ And then it dawned on me, in my drunken haze, I must’ve gotten mixed up with someone else's bed partner because the guy lying next to me wasn’t Alex. I froze, mortified beyond belief, and realized that there was this other guy who had apparently come here expecting to be with Alex. There were apologies exchanged hurriedly, and a lot of confusion about where each person thought they were going to end up that night. But I managed to slip out of the room without too much drama. To make things worse, later I found out it wasn’t just me who made a mistake, turns out Alex had been looking for another guy too! Everyone was laughing it off as this weird party mix-up gone wrong, but for me, there’s still this lingering feeling that it could’ve been so much more if only we hadn't gotten the wrong bed partner. It’s ridiculous, I know, because in hindsight everyone's just glad no one got seriously hurt. Anyway, here I am, still trying to process what happened and whether it was all a blur of drinks or something else entirely. The whole thing feels like some bizarre out-of-body experience where everything went wrong at once but ended up okay anyway. And that’s my confession for the night.
