The Patient and the Nurse

So, you know how sometimes things happen that aren't really about the job anymore? Well, it's been a few weeks now since I started feeling this weird connection with one of my patients. He's in his early 40s, and...I don't know if he feels anything like what I do, but there's just something about him. Something that makes me feel all sorts of things when I'm not even working. I've been trying to push it away, because of course I have, I mean, a nurse and her patient? But sometimes...it gets hard to think straight when he looks at me like I’m the only one in the room. And then there was that night on the phone last week. We shouldn't have even talked about it on work calls, but somehow we did. He said some things, really intimate stuff, and I mean really. It felt like everything was coming out of him because he couldn’t hide anymore. Anyway, I didn't know what to do after that call. And then there were these moments in the clinic where...well, they just kept happening. My hands would be on him for medical reasons, but my brain wasn't focusing on the task at all. It's so confusing, because this is someone who has needs like anyone else, right? But it shouldn't happen here. I don’t know what’s going to happen now. I mean, we're both adults, and everything we've shared so far was just talk, but talk can be a slippery slope. What does it even mean for me to feel this way when it's not just about the job anymore? And how do you draw that line when there isn't one?
