Late Night Thoughts on a Curious Kink

I’ve been married for almost two decades now. We have a great life together, kids, dogs, comfortable home. Nothing much out of the ordinary, really. But lately, I find myself daydreaming about something that’s just not my husband’s thing. It started small enough: the thrill of taking a walk on the wild side, letting go of inhibition for an hour or so and acting like someone else. I don’t know how it began. Maybe it was reading too many books, watching too many movies, I’ve always had this idea that there’s something liberating about stepping into another persona once in awhile. It’s not even necessarily sexual all the time; sometimes it’s just a desire to escape reality for a little bit and become someone different. But now, when we’re together, I find myself thinking about dressing up as... well, I don’t know how many would relate or if this is a common thing. The idea of being dressed in something that doesn’t really suit me but feels empowering, the irony isn’t lost on me. And then there’s this urge to tell someone, anyone, about it. Which is why I’m here now. Is this just a phase? Is everyone as confused by these sudden urges and desires? I know my husband wouldn’t be interested in exploring something like this with me, he likes his comfort zone too much. But isn’t that the whole point of such roleplays, to step out of our comfort zones? I’ve been trying to figure out what this means for us as a couple and how it affects who I am outside of these fantasies. Am I becoming someone else when I have them? Does everyone think about things like this in their forties? If so, is that normal too? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
