In My Study Last Night...

So here I am, Dr. Samantha Carter, forty-five years old and single by choice... or at least that’s what my friends tell me when they ask about the lack of a ring on my finger... but sometimes it feels like something’s missing, you know? Not just companionship, though that would be nice, but something more, a spark in the air, an electric connection. And then it happened. It was late at night and I had stayed behind to finish up some grading for one of my classes, my intro to sociology course. The building was quiet except for the hum of fluorescent lights above me. Suddenly, there was a knock on my office door, making me jump out of my skin. I glanced through the small window and saw it was Mark, one of my students, about twenty-five... Now, before you think this is some kind of Romeo-and-Juliet scenario or that I’m taking advantage... no, no, no. We’re both adults here and there’s a line between teacher-student dynamics and consensual adult interactions... but the look in his eyes when he came to my office door, it was something else... I invited him in, and he walked right up to me, closing the door behind him with this intense gaze. “Dr. Carter,” he started, trying to sound formal but his voice wavered, betraying him. We had never touched before, strict professional boundaries... until now. “Mark,” I said back, my own heart racing as I stepped closer and leaned in... the moment was electric, both of us breathing heavy with anticipation... We ended up staying past midnight in my study, the desks pushed aside to make room. It’s funny how quickly professional attire can be shed under a certain gaze, and believe me, his gaze could strip away anything... And once we were both bare and skin-to-skin, it was as if years of walls had come crumbling down... He entered me slowly at first, both of us lost in the moment. I wrapped my legs around him, pulling him deeper inside me... The way he filled me, the way his movements quickened and grew more intense as we pushed each other to new heights was exhilarating, like an escape from reality, or perhaps a new kind of truth. We talked about everything under the moon after that night, about our lives, desires, dreams... We both knew it wouldn’t last, but sometimes you just need that moment of passion and release... And so here I am, with this secret hanging over my head. It’s not a regret, I wouldn’t change what happened for anything, but it’s certainly something I don’t discuss in the break room during coffee breaks...
