A Mistake at Work

After breaking up with my long-term partner, I found myself working late nights at the coffee shop to distract myself. One night, a regular customer who had always been friendly and subtly flirtatious came in alone after his shift ended. We ended up chatting for hours about everything from our hobbies to past relationships. The conversation somehow turned to my recent breakup and how empty I felt inside. In an act of self-sabotage that still bewilders me, despite knowing it was wrong on so many levels, I found myself leading him upstairs to the storage room. We exchanged a heated kiss and more... well, let's just say things escalated quickly from there amidst the boxes and coffee machines. It wasn't love or attraction that drove us together, but rather an impulse born out of loneliness and confusion. Reflecting on it now leaves me feeling hollow with guilt, I crossed professional boundaries and betrayed trust for a quick fix to my emotional pain.
