A Little White Lie

So, a while back I was at this family get-together with my ex-wife. We're on good terms now, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. But she asked me if I had seen her favorite movie rental the other day... and I fibbed to make things easier. I told her it must be upstairs in one of those boxes we didn't sort through yet. The truth was, a couple weeks earlier when she was still staying over more often, I borrowed it to take back to my place with me after she fell asleep. I could have brought it back and pretended nothing happened... but that tiny lie has been eating at me ever since. She doesn't know about the other stuff we're sorting through too... just this small little fib that means practically nothing in the grand scheme of things. But it feels so heavy.
