Caught in the Lie of Convenience

So I just moved out of my last place, where I lived for a while with my ex-girlfriend after we broke up. We had been trying to make it work long-distance for about six months but ultimately it wasn't meant to be. I found an apartment on my own, which was a big step for me and felt like a clean break from the past. But moving out alone came with its challenges, especially with the logistics of getting everything set up. One day, as I was trying to get some work done, there was a knock at the door, it turned out to be the landlord, who needed to check if the previous tenant had left behind anything in the unit. He mentioned that he found an old laptop charger and a few books still on my side of the apartment. At first, I thought he just wanted confirmation since my ex was still using her key to come by now and then. But then he asked me something odd, he said he saw some boxes in the attic with 'moved out' written all over them but no sign that anything had actually been taken out. I panicked because there were a bunch of old college textbooks and other stuff I was planning on donating or selling later, but I hadn't gotten around to it yet. So I lied, telling him everything was cleared out already. He seemed suspicious for a moment but then just said he'd double-check and left. Now every time I pass the attic door, I feel guilty because I know I shouldn’t have covered up my lack of action like that. It’s a tiny lie about some old stuff no one cares about, but it still eats at me that I was dishonest to someone who trusted me just so I wouldn't face any immediate consequences.
