Temptation on Shift

I’m a nurse in my early 30s, married with two kids. My husband is a great guy and we have a pretty solid relationship. But there’s this doctor at the hospital who always seems to understand me better than anyone else. He’s got that whole confident vibe going for him, but it’s more than just looks, he has a way of making you feel seen when no one else does. It all started innocently enough, we would joke around during shifts and share our patient stories. But over time, the jokes became less playful and there were these silences that lingered longer than usual. One day, while I was getting coffee at break room, he slipped a note into my hand asking if I wanted to talk about some ‘unfinished business.’ I didn’t know what to do. Part of me was screaming it wasn’t right, and another part whispered it could be the relief from this nagging feeling. We ended up talking in an empty patient room, just small talk at first, then it became about us. It was like a switch flipped; his touch felt electric. It happened once more after that. He was leaving for home one night and I was heading back to my shift. He stopped me by the elevator, whispered something into my ear and kissed me quickly before disappearing. That was our only time alone since then, but there’s this pull between us. I know it’s not right, I love my husband, but there’s this part of me that can’t forget about what happened with him. It feels wrong and dirty to even think about. Yet, if the situation came up again, I’m not sure I’d be able to resist.
