A Small White Lie at Work

Anonymous Wanton Beast #818 · General

I worked a long shift last night and was exhausted when I got home. My partner was out of town on business, which meant we weren't supposed to see each other until this weekend. But I really missed her, so I called her late at night for a quick video chat. When I walked in the door this morning for my day shift, one of our charge nurses pulled me aside and asked how things were going with us being short-staffed. I told him everything was fine, that I had slept well last night despite working until 7 am. The truth is, I hadn't slept at all since midnight because of the call. It's a small thing really, but lying about it bothered me more than I thought it would. Even though we're open in our relationship and everything is consensual, I feel like this little lie isn't aligned with who I am or my values. But here I am, making excuses to justify my actions when there was no reason for them. It's funny how sometimes the smallest things can shake you up.
