I Lied About Getting Coffee

So I've been dating Alex for a little over a year now. We're both first-year law students at this prestigious university and we try to keep things pretty low-key since everyone is so competitive here. It's tough balancing studies, extracurriculars, and our relationship. This one day in the middle of October, I was sitting in the library working on a contract law case brief. The air conditioning was cranked up full blast because apparently it's way too expensive to heat this old building properly. My hands were getting so cold that they were starting to go numb and I really needed a warm cup of coffee to keep going. But there was no way I could leave the library right then! I had two more hours before my study group meeting, and I needed every minute to finish up this brief. Plus I'm pretty much OCD about being on time - even a five-minute break is too risky. So instead of getting coffee like I said I would when Alex texted me, I snuck into the Starbucks in our building's student union during my ten-minute break between classes and grabbed a cup to-go. On my way back to the library I got a call from Alex asking where I was. Of course I lied and told him I had gotten coffee at that little cafe we like on campus - you know, the one with the funny name no one can pronounce. Now Alex is incredibly sweet but also really trusting and straightforward, so when he called again later in the day to ask why I seemed so distracted during our study group meeting, I just avoided his eyes and mumbled something about being tired. And since then every time we pass that cafe it's been this elephant-in-the-room thing between us - Alex gives me these weird looks like 'oh are you still thinking about lying?' and I feel terrible. I know I'm probably the asshole here, but honestly if you could give me a pass because hey - my hands were cold okay? And now there's just this stupid white lie hanging over our heads instead of an easy way to warm up. Ugh.
