Casual Dates and Lonely Nights

This week has been one long loop of coffee shop meetups and awkward small talk. I'm 27, have a decent job in marketing, but every date feels like another step down the ladder of expectations. The most recent guy, let's call him Mike, seems nice enough, but our conversation fizzles into silences that only get more uncomfortable with each passing minute. We left the bar after drinks last night thinking we'd see where this goes, but tonight I'm home alone staring at my phone, hoping for a text that never comes. It's not that these dates are terrible, they're just so painfully unsatisfying. Tonight, after another Netflix binge and half-finished bottle of wine, I found myself scrolling through old high school pictures, feeling this overwhelming sense of nostalgia mixed with sadness. It was easy back then to feel excited about the future, but now everything feels muted, like even my dating life is in grayscale. Tonight's confession isn't really about Mike or any of these other guys; it's more a reflection on how far I've come and yet how lost I still feel sometimes. There are moments when all the superficial connections fade away, and you're left with nothing but your own thoughts, and that's okay, but it can also be lonely.
