Another Casual Date Gone Awry

I’m an artist and usually I have a good time on dates. But last week was different. Met this guy online, let’s call him Alex, he seemed nice enough, shared some interests like art and indie films. We set up a date at the local café where I knew we wouldn’t be too crowded. Alex turned out to be more reserved than his profile made him seem. He talked mostly about himself, his job as an accountant, his collection of vinyl records, no questions back. I tried my best to engage, but it felt forced and uncomfortable. Wanted to leave after thirty minutes max, but politeness is a thing. After an hour, we both had that unspoken agreement, time to call it quits. So we said our goodbyes with some obligatory small talk about maybe meeting again sometime in the future. Both of us knew there was no real chance of this happening though. Heading home, I felt a weird mix of relief and disappointment. Relief because dates like that are draining mentally and emotionally; disappointment since it’s rare for me to want to see someone more even if there's no immediate connection. Usually, I can at least sense potential, some spark or promise. But then again, maybe I’m being too hard on myself? Could Alex have just not been into me rather than the other way around? My mind keeps going back and forth between these thoughts ever since that date ended. Not sure what to feel or take away from it.
