A Little White Lie at School

I recently ended things with my longtime partner and there's this one little lie I told a student. It was just something small, when she asked if I had a boyfriend, I said yes to avoid awkward questions about why I suddenly seemed single. She’s in her twenties now and works for the school board, so it could come up unexpectedly. But here’s the thing, I feel strangely okay with the lie. Maybe it's because telling the truth would just complicate everything unnecessarily.
