When I Couldn't Wait Anymore

So, it's been two weeks since my breakup. I thought I was over him by now, but last night, I couldn’t handle the loneliness and emptiness anymore. I had just gotten off work at 4 AM, still in my scrubs from the hospital floor where patients are counting on you for every little thing, their lives intertwined with yours temporarily. Anyway, to unwind, I logged into this app I haven't used since high school, didn’t even know I was still signed up. And there she is, this girl who's been my friend forever but we never clicked that way until now. She’s in her twenties and just as tired of the quiet apartment life as me. I told her what happened with him earlier today and how I needed someone right then, to forget about everything for a moment. We agreed on meeting up outside our usual café near my place. It was early morning but the streets were alive with a different kind of buzz compared to my typical late-night rounds. She's 18+, same as me, we both made sure before heading out separately, knowing it’s not exactly legal or ethical at any other age. We got each other right away; there was no small talk, no awkward pauses. Her touch felt like an immediate release from the tension of everything that had built up in my head. It wasn’t about love or anything deep, it was just about finding a momentary escape together. And I'm still trying to figure out why this is on my mind so much today at work, how something casual and spontaneous can leave you reflecting all day long.
