Client's Secret and My Compromise

So here’s the deal, I’m a personal trainer, single for as long as I can remember. You know that whole thing where you think you’ve found someone perfect but then it turns out they just want to get fit? That happened to me with a client named Sarah. Sarah started coming to my gym about six months ago. She was your typical new year’s resolution type, wanted to lose weight and get healthier. Over time though, we got to know each other better. I found out she loved old romance novels and had this whole fantasy world going on in her head where knights and dragons fought over princesses. It was cute at first, just chatting about books between sessions. Then she mentioned that these stories inspired a kink of hers, a role-play kind, not real-life stuff. Nothing too out there, just a bit of domination and submission role-playing with the guy she dated back then. I got curious but kept it to myself, I’m all about boundaries. Then one day we were wrapping up a session and Sarah started talking again about her fantasies. This time though, she opened up more, how much she misses that kind of play and how hard it is for her to find someone who understands or accepts it. She asked if I did too, which caught me off guard. We never talked about my own personal life like this. I told her the truth, that while I didn’t exactly role-play knights and dragons, I have a bit of a kink for a similar kind of control in bed with an edge. It felt weird but we agreed to keep it private between us since she was still technically my client. After that conversation though, something shifted. We started seeing each other more outside the gym, lunches turned into dinners and drinks. Sarah brought up her fantasies again and asked if I ever wanted to explore them with her, in a safe space, understanding everything is consensual and pretend. It was tempting but it felt wrong on every level, not just ethically, which was pretty clear, but also because something inside told me this wasn’t going anywhere good. So I suggested she find someone who could give her exactly what she wanted without the conflict we both knew would come up if we tried to mix work and pleasure. And that’s how it ended, we agreed to remain professional. It was a close call, but in my line of business, these kinds of boundaries are everything. Now I’m left wondering how many other clients have their own secrets they share with me during sessions.
