A Lie I Told My Fiancé

Anonymous Unhinged Heathen #706 · General

I’ve been working on a series of sculptures for the past few months, and there’s one piece that has been particularly challenging. It’s a nude female form in bronze, but it required an exact level of detail that my hands just couldn’t manage without assistance. So, I started using gloves to get cleaner lines and smoother surfaces. One day, while we were out shopping for furniture, my fiancé noticed the box labeled ‘latex’ at home and asked me about it. My mind went blank for a second; I didn't want him thinking it was anything other than work-related. So, I lied and said they were gloves designed specifically for handling bronze to avoid fingerprints. I felt guilty afterward because, in reality, those gloves serve another purpose when the creative juices flow during solo sessions. But telling that truth would just open a Pandora’s box of conversations neither of us wants right now. It was easier, and probably wiser, to keep it simple and professional.
