Alone in the Dark of Night

I met someone online last month, just chatting for a while before we started to share more personal stuff. She was younger than me, early thirties, and she liked old movies and reading books. We had a lot in common, and I thought maybe there could be something more. One night, we decided to try video chatting. It wasn't just about talking anymore; it felt like we were both looking for some kind of comfort. She said she was having a tough time with her family issues, so much stress from work too. I tried to be the shoulder she could lean on, even though all I wanted was to hold her. We didn't end up going further than clothes on. But it felt close enough that night, like we were really there together in a way. It's weird how someone you can never touch can still feel so real. And now, after she moved away for a new job and stopped calling, I'm left wondering if any of it was real at all. It sounds sad, but even knowing that most likely it wasn't enough to last, I miss her company more than I thought possible.
