A Little White Lie at the Base Gym

I recently joined the base gym here in town where my husband is stationed. The membership was a nice perk to have around and I was trying to stay active, but there's always that initial awkwardness when you're new. One day, I had an unexpected meeting with my boss, so I missed a class I signed up for weeks ago. To avoid the embarrassment of showing up late or just skipping out on it, I sent an email to the instructor saying I was feeling under the weather and couldn't make it that day. The truth is, I felt pretty guilty lying about being sick since I know how contagious things can be around here in a military setting, but my ego took over and made me feel like it was better than showing up late or missing out on future classes with them thinking less of me. So far, no one's called me out on it, but the lie keeps nagging at me.
