A Slip of the Tongue in an Unexpected Place

I met Sarah at a university mixer during my first semester of law school. We clicked over shared interests and quickly moved to dating, then into a committed relationship after six months. Now we're living together for our second year, but lately I've been feeling restless, not that she's ever complained about the intimacy in our life, it's just something inside me that wants more variety, excitement. A few weeks ago, I got invited to an underground legal conference on privacy and surveillance law. It was late at night, and while there were no explicit rules against speaking to anyone from other institutions or outside my field, the vibe felt very professional, no room for romance. Yet, as we were wrapping up a particularly heated debate over international data sharing, something in me snapped, it's hard to explain. Maybe the intensity of being with people who take themselves so seriously made me want to play the fool. Anyway, during a short coffee break, I caught myself flirting with a female attorney from another country. She was charming and engaging, but there was no real chemistry, just a mutual acknowledgment that we were both professionals at our wits' end. Still, while we chatted, her hand brushed against mine in a way that felt like it could have been an accident or a signal for something more. This moment is nagging at me because I don't know what my intentions were, to take things further with this stranger or simply revel in the taboo of flirting during such a serious conference. There was nothing physical between us, but there's no denying the thrill it brought. And now, as much as Sarah and I have always been good about talking through issues, I don't know how I can bring up an experience that, while not inappropriate in any legal sense, feels ethically murky to me. Am I being overly sensitive? Have I just crossed a line without knowing it? Is there something wrong with feeling drawn to such a forbidden setup, even if no one gets hurt? It's strange how much I'm overthinking this, almost as though my subconscious is trying to communicate something about boundaries or personal growth. Any thoughts?
