My Secret at Work

I've been married for five years now and our relationship is stable, but there's something gnawing away inside me that I haven't shared with my wife. Last month, a new regular customer came into the cafe where I work as a barista. He’s in his mid-thirties and he always orders the same drink, an iced caramel macchiato. There was just something about him; perhaps it was his quiet demeanor or how he would look at me with these deep eyes, but after a few weeks of serving him every day, I found myself looking forward to seeing him. It's not like we talked much more than the usual order and chit-chat at first. But one afternoon when there were no other customers around, he asked for my number saying he wanted to ask me something that would take longer than our usual coffee talk. I felt a strange flutter in my stomach as I handed him my card with just my phone number scribbled on it. Over the next couple of weeks, we started talking more often after work hours and there was this mutual understanding between us without needing to say anything explicit. Then one evening when everyone else had left, he invited me over for a drink at his place and I accepted despite knowing deep down that this wasn't right. We ended up spending the night together in his bed, exploring each other with an intensity that felt like it was filling a void neither of us realized existed until then. Since then, we've kept things discreet but I feel torn between my guilt over being unfaithful and these lingering feelings for him that just won't go away.
