...It Wasn't That Big A Deal?...

So I'm in grad school for psychology and struggling with a lot of stuff. Just trying to get by, you know? My roommate is pretty understanding though ... most of the time. We've been roommates since freshman year of college and she knows everything about me and my situation. Anyway, this one day last week was really tough. I had a big assignment due that night for a class I'm barely passing, plus an interview with a potential professor at 9 AM the next morning ... it's a long story but they have no idea how much trouble I am right now and I don't want them to find out. So when my roommate asked me about the progress on the assignment last night, I kind of just froze up. My stomach was tied in knots with anxiety thinking about all that work left to do and not enough time before the deadline. So instead of telling her the truth ... I fibbed. I said it was going pretty well and I had made good progress, almost done even! Just needed a few more hours this evening to finish up and submit it by midnight no problem. But really... It wasn't that big of a deal, right? At least not compared to the other stuff piling up on me day after day. And my roommate is always nagging about how I need to focus and get my work done ... so maybe just once, telling her everything was fine felt nice. But now this morning as I sit here procrastinating even more on that essay, I feel guilty again for lying to her... Do you think she'll find out? Am I the asshole? Sometimes it feels like everyone around me is doing great and moving forward while I'm just stuck. Is it okay to hide that sometimes?
